Just use D3D overrider which is part of rivatuner install and it will force vsync on.

What I meant was vsync did not fix the noise problem even though it was on, I should have been more specific

I RMA'd my card with EVGA, the new card is 20* cooler and doesn't make a sound.

BAD CARD!

If you're sure it's coming from the card you should RMA it.

But its a strange problem.
In Crysis menu the sound is heard but ingame the sound is almost gone.
I do more then 10 years in pc`s and for me i never heard this sound.
Also in the crysis menu the sound is variable if you go in the single player, multi player, mods, profile, options, credits.
The sound is changing
Is this also by you guys?

Sorry for my poor english

There is nothing in holland for this problem in forums.
I`m happy there is internet.

I have a screeching problem with my 8800gtx. I've had it going for so long that i've worked out that it's only during phases that the framerates go more than triple my refresh rate (60hz), then gets louder and higher pitched the higher fps gets, eg: Intros, Cutscenes, etc.

I found this thread because my system started screeching too after I installed my GTX 280.

I posted about this on the EVGA forums as well here: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=...55671;

I'll cut to the chase, as it turns out that in my case it's my PSU that is actually screeching and not the GTX 280.

For reference, system specs are as follows:

Asus P5E
Q9450 @ 3.4GHz (w/ TRUE 120)
4GB (2x 2GB) G. Skill DDR1000 @ 1020MHz
EVGA GTX 280 (stock clocks)
SB X-Fi XtremeMusic
2 x 200GB WD HD (RAID 0)
1 x 300GB WD HD
PCP&C 750 Silencer
4 x Antec 120mm fans

There is actually another guy on the EVGA forums that has the same PSU as I do, and it exhibiting the same screeching noise.

I'll be getting a new PSU soon for Nehalem so hopefully that will fix it.

Now i installed my old 9800gtx with the coolermaster psu and the sound is their but only lower.
When i bought the gtx 280 i also bought a new psu.
It`s a Coolermaster Real Power M700 Watt Modulair.
I think the sound is coming from my psu.
Because before the gtx 280 and the coolermaster i have the 9800 gtx and the zalman 460 watt psu and no sound (screeching)was coming from the pc.

Is coolermaster a good high quality psu?
Or is it garbage?

Hi there. I had same prowith GTX 280. And indeed it is problem with the power supplies (i heard those noises also in my psu). And i thinkt that ive found a solution on some polish forum. Try to turn on the VSync in games and Triple buffering. It helped me. Its because high end cards your card will generate only that amount of fps that your lcd can show. Otherwise it wil generate as much as it possible (f.e. in Crysis can reach even 5000fps - that what i have read) and to generate such many fps need many watts. So that why it make so many noise. I hope that will help you as well. Good luck lads
