Like i said i'm still considering it, but 4870x2 would cost me 550, i don't want 512 frame buffer

but also those other points still are valid

It would appear at this typing, the prices have gone up to $450, no more $420 deal. Or is the rebate still on?

there so few things that i would miss out going ATI

1) not a big ATI driver fan
2) would miss nHancer
3) no SSAA
4) Multi-GPU, always more work then single card
5) can't really set Multi-GPU profiles in detail
6) no AA compability options for games that have AA issues
7) number 5 and 6 would have to wait month + for ATI to maybe add profile
8) 1gb buffer would probably cost me 550
Some positives
1) better 2D quality
2) better color reproduction
3) better video decoding
4) better multi display configs
5) better performance

BS, this is total user preference.

I have owned tons of video cards and I can say that is just not true.

Many of the strange things in his list are obviously his opinion though, but claiming better 2D quality is just retarded.

no the 2D is not BS not even close. Put a Nvidia card and a ati card in identical rigs and hook them to the same monitor and I can tell you what one is what. Its not hard really theres a distinctive color and sharpness difference. Then again any Maxtor will take the crown so I guess it goes Maxtor, ATi, Nvidia as far as 2D goes. Personally the Matrox Millennium P650 has the best 2D I have ever seen to date!

3) better video decoding (still winning the HQ video bench to date, Proven!)
4) better multi display configs (ok my opinion...)
5) better performance (R700 stomps GTX280, Proven!)

Not completely. Basing 2D quality on a BRAND is just retarded (IMO), but not on an individual card basis. I've had low end cards on both sides of the fence with AWFUL 2d quality, mainly in the form of blurry text. USUALLY you see better components being used on the actual output of higher end cards, but its not a rule or anything. My 6800 Ultra had mediocre 2d quality, but I could never complain about the quality of my 8800 GTX.

Ya the 2D is BS
I have just gone from a 4870 to a 260 and it looks every bit as sharp and vibrant as the 4870. And now my games have no flickering and min framerate slowdowns
Oh and the heat and noise !

Got any proof of Point 2 ?
