PSU For GTX 280

From what I read on these forums is that you need a 6pin and 8pin connector native on your psu for this card. Link below is the psu I have now. It does not mention any 8pin connectors though. Also, does it have enough muscle to run the 280?? Thanks

You're in the same boat as me, I have a Corsair HX620, our power supplies have enough power for it yes, but the connectors are wrong. You can use a 2x6 pin to one 8 pin converter and a 2x4 pin to one 6 pin converter to get it to work, but you'll need to buy a card that comes with both of these or buy them separately.

Personally I don't like the idea of that though, adds a lot of cable and power loss.

I had the same PSU when I first got my GTX280. It handles the 280 fine (along with 2 DVDRWs, 6 80mm fans, a Q6600 at 3Ghz, 3 Sata drives). It has 4 12V rails with a max of 18A each. It only has 2x6p though. Use two of those into 1x8p, and another 2x4p molex connectors into a 6p. My BFG also came with a 6p->8p converter instead of a 2x4p->6p, which worked fine while I used the other 6pin directly on the card. Both configurations worked fine...

The newer Corsair HX620s come w/both a 6-pin & 8-pin cable.

That impresses me. Thats why I stick to Corsair. However, I think I'm still going to upgrade the PS, but I'll go for broke and get a Corsair HX1000 I think, to future proof myself this time.

I went with a Corsair TX750w. Wanted to stay Corsair but didn't want to drop $270 on the HX1000 after I saw the price.

Anyone know how long companies have been putting 8 pin power cables on power supplies?

I've had my OCZ GameXStream 700W since January of 2007. I'll check my cables later, but I don't remember seeing an 8 pin cable in there.
