I just went through four, yes four GTX 280. I was so pissed off. The BFG was $419 at the local Frys...it comes with a $30 rebate, so $389 would've been the total cost. I returned the BFGs and bought the EVGA for $499. Talking about another $100 for minuscule improvements.

1st - BFG 105C in ~10 seconds at 100% fan, Crysis.
2nd - BFG 105C in ~10 minutes at 100% fan, Crysis.
3rd - BFG 105C in ~10 seconds at 100% fan, Crysis.
4th - EVGA 83C-85C max at 100% fan, auto yields similar results. Crysis.

I'm still testing the 4th card, furmark is pushing this same card to 100C in about ~10 minutes. I closed the application before anything happened. I might keep this card??? Sigh...atleast this one allows casual game play.

*update* The card definitely went up to 104C in about ~15 minutes in furmark. I also got the time estimate from furmark.

Ouch! man i would be pissed, It was enough of a pain just having to RMA once, although i must say i was pleased with eVGA's RMA service.

I'll have to run furmark on my card tonight and see what I get after 10 - 15 min.

I'd say you guys focus more on a Crysis DX10 heavy session temps rather than Furmark.

Got my Palit GTX 280 yesterday, no problems at all, idles at ~50-53c, after Furmark for 2 hours it reaches 85c. I even remember my 8800GTX at one point, with the Zalman VF1000 cooler, reaching 93c on Furmark!

Although it is winter here at the moment

I can't decide whether to return my 4th card or not. This is getting ridiculous. Even though Crysis and other games are playable at about 83-85C. Furmark makes my card temp rise to 105C, and I'm pretty sure future games will also make that happen.

Hmm Crysis temps seem high too. in my hot room i get around 70's ... if you can RMA i'd say do it.

I just tested my newly installed PALiT GTX 280 in 3DMark Vantage.

Results at stock settings, both fan and clocks - Max temp. was 81C.

Edit - Fine in crysis also ( 82C @ default speeds ) . I seem too be luckly by this poll!

Good god I would just go ATI and be done with it. There's no excuse in this kind of crap.

I just got my replacement GTX 280 from BFG.

It's defective as well...hits 105C easily in maybe a minute.

This is an absolute joke on the part of nVidia & manufacturers.

Yup, I've learned my lesson.. I'm NEVER going to buy a video card again as soon as it launches. NEVER !!!

Also, I'm saving my pennies and getting 2 4870x2's and a new mobo and processor and
DITCHING my 280..
