Unhappy still can't compile driver with 2.6.26*

I haven't been able to compile an nvidia driver for linux-2.6.26 or linux-2.6.26.1

It makes no difference whether I set the SYSSRC variable or not, and I have tried all three scripts:

NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.12-pkg2.run
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-177.13-pkg2.run

The NVIDIA script consistently complains that it can't find the source files/headers.
These all compile fine with 2.6.25.11, which is what I'm still using.

Log file attached.

Default Same problem here - can't find sources

I'm experiencing the same problem with 2.6.26-rt1. The installer complains that it can't find the sources, even though the log file says its looking in the right place(s). Installer log is attached.

Do you have the kernel sources installed for your current kernel?
In Fedora, it's called a 'kernel-devel' package. If you are positive that
you have them installed, then manually pass the source parameter to the
nvidia installer: --kernel-source-path=</path/to/sources>
It's possible you'll need to specify others, use the -A argument for a full list.

By default, the nvidia installer looks at the path:
---> /lib/modules/`uname -r`/
It checks for source or build, which typically are symlinks to the real kernel sources. So an alternate fix is to create one of those symlinks.

Those symlinks are present and point to the correct places. That's why I'm puzzled. Driver built fine with my old 2.6.22-rt9 kernel. Any further suggestions?

Does your kernel source directory contain the files:
Quote:
.config
Module.markers
Module.symvers
It could be your sources are 'clean' so the installer doesn't know how to build
the modules for the running kernel.

H'mm - yes I did do a "make clean" after I built the kernel and booted it OK. I'll give it another go and not do the "make clean" befor driver installation.

You probably only need the .config file, hopefully you still have it.
Try just doing a "make modules" to build the modules portion. You
shouldn't have to recompile the entire kernel. After you have the
modules bit, you should be able to build your nvidia module.

Evidently "make clean" removes something now that it didn't use to remove. After a modules re-compile, 173.14.12 built fine.

Thanks for the help.

Bingo! That's the piece of information I needed.
Thanks, all!

If you did "make clean", "make prepare" command will re-produce removed headers such
as include/linux/bounds.h etc..

"make help" shows below.
# make help
# .....
# .....
# prepare - Set up for building external modules
