Default So I got second GTX280

Unbelievable performance SLI works like charm especially in Crysis.

I'm getting a second GTX 280 too, a few questions:

1) Do you get any microstuttering?

2) Does Vsync work with SLI? If not, does it work with D3DOverrider?

3) What was Crysis fps with single card compared to SLI?

4) I also have eVGA 780i mobo coming, are you using your X-Fi in the available PCI slot just under the middle PCI-e 16x slot? (GTX 280s in the top an bottom PCI-e 16x slots I'm guessing?) Does the SLI bridge fit over the X-Fi fine too?

Thanks.

I don't see any microstuttering. Everything runs really really smooth. I played UT3, Frontline Fuel of Wars and Crysis. As far as Crysis you can crank up everything to very high, DX10.0 and apply AA2x and AF8x. It runs better then with single card, you will feel it and it's totally smooth. I didn't try vsync. Yes i have my xi-fi in the middle. I have no heating issues. Both cards reached like 79C GPU1 76C GPU2 - Crysis was exception 81C GPU1 80C GPU2. Both cards idle around 56C with fan set to 40% via Evga Precision. It runs pretty cool.

Taking advantage of the 280 price cut I see. :: 1000 to just over 500 is not bad at all.

I believe the microstuttering is still there , but its not noticable due to the fact that most games are running at high framerates when running a GTX280 SLI or Tri so it wont matter in that case.

we need someone to conduct a series of technical tests to confirm that , not just measure it by "feelings".

I wonder if this is a flat panel issue. I get no stuttering on my 22" CRT but it is definitely there on the 22" LCD.... Refresh Rate issue maybe?? CRT @ 85hz = smooth, LCD @ 60hz = microstuttering... at least for me.

I had microstuttering on my previous 7800GTX SLI/7950 Quad-SLI systems & thats on a 19" CRT @85hz so i dont believe its the issue. i havent run any GF8 series card in SLI though so no idea if their case is any different.

With the plummetting 280GTX prices I made the plunge and grabbed a 2nd 280GTX as well, just about to install it, keeping my fingers crossed I don't have an overheating one.

Prices are falling on the 280's right now, but I'm not so sure buying one now is the best idea knowing full well the (280b or 290) is coming in September. This will certainly drive prices down even more on the 280 if you're not tempted to buy the more powerful and cooler running (280b or 290). Patience is a tough thing to master, but I just can't see buying a 280 right now with the next revision coming so soon. Won't matter for me anyway since I'm buying a 4870x2, but for those that are buying Nvidia, this is something to think about.

Much like the 8800GTX was faster than a 8800GT/GTS, I think the 280GTX is going to be faster than the die shrink. The main problem for nVidia with the 280GTX is the die size and how much it costs to produce, it is without question faster than a 4870 (I have owned 2 4870s and now 2 280GTXs). With the price of a 280GTX only @ 100 bucks more than a 4870, it is the better buy at the moment IMO. What you will most likely see with the refresh is a smaller chip that is cheaper to produce but not necessarily faster.
