Default NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.07-pkg1 Only Loads x2?

I finally had to unload 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.07-pkg1.run'. I'm back to the built in Linux driver because on boot 'lspci -vv' indeed shows that my 'nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400]' supports 'Rate=x1,x2,x4' but after I 'startx' "x4" disappears and my server runs at"x2" which is really slow. Is this a bug? I tried to load one of your older drivers, but the install fails. I tried an older kernel with the same failing results.
Thank You.
