Wow can you all stop ruining the OP's thread? Please?
To answer you and in which everyone has already it's your choice. Both are GREAT cards and perform very close if not better than the other. I have a GTX 260 from EVGA due to stepping up from a 9800GTX. The eye candy is jaw dropping. They bother perform very well under 1650 x 1200 anything over, GTX 260 will kill with AA on due to the 896MB. If you arent playing anything beyond 1650 x 1200 maybe go with ATi. Better buy and saves a little more. I know because my friend owns a 4750. If you do go with the GTX 260, go with EVGA. Their customer service is the best that I have seen. Go to their message boards and you will see. Their Mods are active unlike other message boards. Also their mods take the time to look into your issues such as RMA or opurchases and makes sure they gettin taken care of. They give you 110% customer service. Also they offer set-up. Which means, if you are not satisfied with your GTX 260, you can step up to a GTX 280. you jsut pay the difference of what you paid for your card. Also To do the step up you must buy from an eligilbe e-tailer, such as Newegg. They have them posted on their site, and e-bay is a big no-no! BFG is second to none right under EVGA. They now offer a "step-up" as well from what I have heard but can't go wrong with BFG. hjav enot had anything from them but from word of mouth they are good. XFX, don't even bother with them!!! You get third world country with customer service. |

Go and hit submit. It's so easy
![]() eVga is the best. Good RMA process in case the things go bad. Good warranty. Good Support. Very useful message board they have. And you get Free Copy of 3DMark Vantage. I got two free copies with two GTX280 i purchased. Make sure you register your card and you upload scan of your invoice . Step Up program...forgot that.

Of course, the GTX260 does have other benefits, such as PhysX support, which is more prevalent now than DX10.1 support. The GTX260 has its benefits, so no need to twist facts. |

It's a little of both, actually. The 4870 outperforms the GTX260 convincingly with high levels of AA on most current games, but the low VRAM will kill it before long as it's close to capacity on current titles.
After installing Qarl's texture pack for Oblivion I get major slowdown with 16xAA even in Crossfire. My FPS plummets from 70 down to 30 going from 8x-->16x. You have to wonder how well it'll perform with upcoming games that'll run high-res textures like ID's new engine and whatever else may be out there. Will probably have to back down the AA a lot in those games to run them.

when SH64 asked you before does Oblivion with texture packs plays well on 48xx series, didn't you say it plays perfect?

Considering I just installed the mod a few days ago, no, I don't remember saying that. And you're generalizing a bit. It plays "perfect" until you enable 16x MSAA where the cards hit the VRAM limit. I can even run 24xAA just fine since it's shader-based (Edge Detect). I just can't run 16x MSAA.

I know you're just defending your purchase but don't say things that simply aren't true. The ATI 4870 will outperform the GTX 260 with AA turned on. FYI, the 260's 896MB of memory has nothing on the 4870's 512MB DDR5. The 260 holds some advantage over a 4850 but they aren't in the same price range so who cares? Your statement about not playing anything above 1680x1050 with an ATI card is laughable at best. I play just fine at 1920x1200 with 16xAF and 4xAA in all games except Crysis with my 4870. |

How about offloading physics from the CPU to the GPU? I tried this with "Warmonger" and more than tripled my FPS.
Here is the opening room in the tutorial in "Warmonger". I used 1920x with all sliders to the right, or max. 177.41 = 20FPS http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5...41stocknt6.jpg 177.79 + PhysX 8.07.18 = 63FPS http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/6...ysix260rq3.jpg According to nVidia 10 titles supporting this will be out by Christmas, and 14 more next year. This could make a lot of upcoming games that might be unplayable @ 1920x max settings, playable. That is if the game supports it. Moving from 50 to 100FPS isn't that big of a deal to me, moving from 20 to 63 is.
