DX10 is broken since Book 14, I was getting mad, thinking it was all because of the ATI drivers, but no. All other DX10 games I have tried (Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet, Hellgate London) work with no problems, only LOTRO crashes. But there is an official crash report thread for Book 14 where people with both ATI and nVidia cards are getting crashes on DX10. I have played for an hour in DX10 with no problems, but doing nothing, just walking or riding from zone to zone. If you enter a fellowship and start fighting, it will crash after very few minutes.

It has been included in the list of known issues of Book 14:

If you have DirectX 10 enabled you may experience crashes. Turning off DirectX 10 will solve this issue

I ran it fine for a bit, as soon as I went to an interior space, like the trade hall, it would cause the driver to quit responding. So in the end, I wound up running DX9. The biggest issue I have with the game is that it runs kinda blah on high end hardware. I have the stutter issue. My only fix for that is to drop the game engine speed.

Yea, me too, and the overlapping shadows in DX10 has gotten worse with Book 14 as well, so hopefully this get sorted soon.

Patch up for Book 14 related issues today, servers down for patching until noon. Hopefully this resovled the issues, not that it has been unplayable, just a little less lovely for a couple weeks.

A patch has been released for book 14 that disables option for DX10 distant landscape, maybe that was causing crashes. I tried a couple of hours yesterday with DX10 and there were no crashes, but performance hit was bigger than before, I'm sure they have disabled some optimizations to find the crash cause.

The game will receive a graphics update when Mines of Moria is released, and I read somewhere that new DX10 features will come with Moria too.
