Yes Gaming has an effect on a child's mind, and so does TV, so does Movies, and the world outside...but to single out gaming as the reason for the end of the world is dumb. Why on earth would parents even let there kids have a computer with access to have these games installed...how IS IT the developers fault.

There is a lot of software out there that can help in keeping your child in control. I think Vista has something interesting with its rating control thing, and that would be something that i hope the next os does have. Something in built into the OS, and have your kids with minimal control user access, and then monitor there logs, if you think they are upto no good...again the responsibility still comes down to the parents.
You guys completely miss the point every time when I anything against the gaming community. It is sad.

Groans....

I'm with CaptUDawg on this 100%, games do affect children, just as they affect adults. I know, they are a powerful medium. Very powerful. What is needed is firm ratings, strict retail outlets and better educated parents and leaders. Once we have proper ratings and the ability to enforce them at a retail level, we can relax the banning of games. With better education, parents can take a greater role in bringing up their children, instead of letting the Government decide watch their kids can and can't do.

Until then, I'm going to continue to import. As all other mature gamers in AU should do, this will put the pinch on local retailers, which in turn will put the pinch on the government to pull their finger out and look at some proper ratings.
Exactly!

My only point is these games are very harmful. Yet you gamers stop right there and only argue that point. For me that is not the argument. It is just a statement. The real argument is the parenting. Parents need to be right on top of what their children are doing and how they spend their time. It would be nice if the gaming industry worked with parents. They are doing a better job but they can do more to help.

I don't want to ban games. I also do not want the government involved in this in ANY WAY!

I would like to see the gaming industry adopt the same rating system as the movie industry. NC-17, R, PG-13, PG and G. The rating system we have now is messed up. That is one small area we can start. Again this all needs to be done in the private sector way from all government.

And that's the problem. The people that are having trouble with that concept are little kids. Kids should not be exposed to stuff like that because they do have trouble distinguishing video games from reality.

Not if they are grown up right with proper education from the parents. Its the parents that should take their time to educate their kids about thing and not just ban it all. Parents always take the easy way out. I would never hit a child because I dont take the easy way out I WORK for my child. So when he grows up he will have free thinking and not think everything in the world is made by satan.

He gets to play violent games because he know the difference between reality and games. He is educated about it, can think for himself and knows good from bad. He knows you cant go around killing people and if yours 5 year old kid doesnt know that then you have a big problem and its not the games fault.
