Default DPI problems with changing twinview resolutions

Installed is nvidia 100.14.11 and xorg 1.3.0. I have a twinview setup with two monitors, one 1600x1200 and the second one 1280x1024, and the dpi set to 90x90. Everything works fine until I switch off the second monitor by using xrandr to set the twinview resolution to 1600x1200,NONE. I do this so I can add the second monitor to have a larger screen of I need it. However the driver still assumes that the physical size is the same and adapts the 90x90 dpi to 50x90. This causes problems with some software (e.g. acrobat reader) which renders with distortion. I tried the "ConstantDPI" option (set once to True and once to False) but with no difference. How can I force the driver/server to use a fixed dpi?

Anyone? No one? Nvidia? There's plenty of posts like these in the forums with no answers.

It makes dynamic twinview kinda useless if you can't add a monitor and have things display without looking incredibly squashed.

Looks like the nvidia-driver (171.06 here) never changes the reported physical screen size, even with ConstantDPI on.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just tracked this down to a bug in the X server. X.org 7.4 (xserver 1.5) should be fixed, once they're released.

Using debian, i recently upgraded to the latests xorg debian testing packages (7.3+15), and the bug seems to have been fixed. (I did not check if your fix was backported to 7.3, aaron, but this is very likely)
my nvidia driver version: 173.14.09

best regards,

best regards,
That was because I reported it in bug #491526, and requested for them to backport this fix to the debian xserver-xorg-core (in the xserver 1.4 branch) prior to the release of 1.5 (since 1.5 won't be ready in time for lenny). It won't have been backported to any other distribution unless they do it themselves. As aaron says though, it will be there in 1.5 when people decide to use it.

Good to hear it works, because I haven't yet restarted X since upgrading it on my machine.
