Question TV Out on GF2 MX - way to get rid of black borders?

I'm using a Geforce 2 MX board with the new 4349 drivers. Everything works fine when displaying my gnome-desktop on two separate X screens (XFree 4.2, 1st CRT, 2nd TV), except of the black borders on the TV.

I tried the TVOverscan option, but obviously it only works with GF4 boards.

I also tried different modelines (which work fine with nvtv and don't produce black borders around the tv picture there), but I couldn't get the desired result (which is no borders of course).

Does anybody know a solution to this problem without using nvtv?

Maybe a working modeline or something?

TIA,
Markus.

Sorry I can't help you, I just wanted to point out that the TVOverScan option does not seem to work on _any_ NVidia card: see the "Overscan" thread.

Actually NVidia claims "Overscan is currently only available on GeForce4 or newer GPUs with either NVIDIA or Conexant TV encoders." per their README at ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...a-1.0-4349.txt but according to reports in the above thread this is not true.

Playing with the modlines will not help either (believe me I've tried, I even got it to work at 720x480 NTSC resolution, but no overscan...)

Somebody should try to decode (reverse enginner) their .o driver files, which seem to include some overscan strings, like:
DisableTVOverscan
overscan
OverscanScalingCH
OverscanScalingBT
OverscanScalingNV

Thanks NVIDIA for the open source!

Is this still the case? I just bought a GeForce4 MX 440 (NV17) and TVOverscan didn't work. I tried the newer GeForce FX 5200 (also NV17 tv encoder)and the same thing. I am using the latest driver:

from xfree86.log:
(II) Module nvidia: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.4496
Module class: XFree86 Video Driver

Should I forget about nvidia cards for tvout or what?! Is it worth getting a connexant tv encoder chip (instead of NV17) and use nvtv? Do folks have good experience with this? I dunno... I'm getting pretty frustrated...

I posted about this last week: I just got a GeForce FX 5200 board, the OverScan is supposed to work on that (according to the README), but it does not work.

Black borders no matter how I set the OverScan option (and they don't change).

I did not get any reply on my question, also not from the NVIDIA people.

I am amazed, this board is sold as a "Personal Cinema" and I can only watch movies in a box. That cannot be true....

With my Geforce4 MX440 board (Nvidia tv encoder) overscan works with the 4363 driver, but not the 4496 driver.

Hopefully the next driver will fix whatever they broke in 4496.

Thank you _SO_ much for replying with this! I appreciate it on so many levels!

My FX 5200 now works with overscan! Yippee!
