I just started playing with Linux, I have a question. I'm running Knoppix from a bootable DVD, I have a 22" LCD monitor, how do I set the display resolution to 1680X1050? 1680X1050 is the native resolution of my screen. My video card is a ATI HD4850.
Thank You

I haven't used knoppix for ages, but I believe you would just amend the boot line...when you first boot you should be offered options like "boot" "help" etc.
"screen=1680x1050@60hz" would be my guess. You could also install it to a spare hdd, makes tweaking easier, not to mention the overall responsiveness of the system. EDIT: Yep, here you go. http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Cheat_Codes |

I tried that but it did not work. I looked an ATI's site for Linus drivers for the HD4850, don't look like they support Linux

Ahh, I forgot..livecd.
I don't think the 48xx series are supported yet either, but I think you'll want to keep a close eye on the open source drivers, in the event you do install to hdd. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver |

"Installation For most users it won't be necessary to go into installation and configuration details of the driver. Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) provides a notification saying that there are restricted drivers available. You just have to go there (Restricted Drivers Manager) and enable the "ATI accelerated graphics driver". Ubuntu will then install and configure the driver for you. If this does not provide the optimal solution you were looking for, please read ahead" I did not know about the "Restricted Drivers Manager" I will try this next.
