Default Re: Price keeps falling! BfG GTX 280 for $384.99!

you'll have the fastest yet cheapest setup to run crysis between 50-60fps at 1920x1200 vh dx10 with a gtx 260 tri-sli setup for $750. I'm sure warhead will run even faster with optimizations in its engine. connect these babies onto a 780i mobo and E8500 overclocked over 4ghz with 4 gigs cheap ddr2-800.

780i mobo - $250
GTX 260 (3) - $750
DDR2 800 4 gigs - $100
E8500 - $200
Quality over 1kw PS - $300
High electric bill - priceless
Room gets hotter from the 3 GTX 260s - turn on ac - even higher electric bill

Approx $1600. Nice fast upgrade that won't break the bank until the utility bill rolls in

correction to above statement. second fastest setup. first being tri sli gtx 280, which is $1200, consumes more power, and releases hotter exhaust air. no thanks. GTX 260 tri sli consumes less power, much cheaper, and less hot air.

You are CPU bound with most games with just two GTX 280's and a 3gig Quad CPU.I don't see much point in three GTX280's unless you have a Quad 5gig CPU and running at 2560x1600 looking at some of the reviews.

Yeah, Tri-SLI seems like way overkill.

It's amazing that for $770 ($385 x 2) you can have 2 of nVidia's highest performing cards at a price for what they were almost charging for 1 not too long ago!

God bless ATI and competition!!!!!! It's really going to get interesting when Intel jumps into the mix soon. Very exciting times for gamers indeed!

I disagree based on this review. http://forums.slizone.com/index.php?...pic=23084&st=0
If you are deciding between (2) GTX 280 SLI vs (3) GTX 260 Tri-SLI since both setups are priced the same, I would get (3) GTX 260s. Scaling is quite good on these cards, much more than previous generation cards.

Crysis 1680x1050 Very High 16xAA/16xAF GTX 280 SLI

Crysis 1680x1050 Very High 16xAA/16xAF GTX 260 3 Way SLI

I don't like the performance of the 4870x2 in Crysis. yeah I know it's one game, but there is nothing out there that comes close to the level of graphics this game displays, especially with everything cranked in DX10 mode. This game shows off the true horsepower of your card.

I'm f@$#%@ing sorry but $800+ worth of cards and not to meantion the PSU required to drive them to get 55fps in Crysis at 1680x1050? ROFLMAO. What a joke. Crysis scaling = *insert gross word here*.

I can set mostly VH on a 4870 and be in the 30's much of the time at that res. But ya. Without the AA. Same goes for a GTX260. Bother cards costing half those two solutions (tri-sli'd 260's or SLI'd 280) and offering ~65% of the performance. No AA is not that big a deal in that game due to it's rendering tech. IMO anyway.

Really is sad. 2 generations of cards and multicard config and we are JUST reaching over the 50 fps barrier. Screw that.

C.

I still find that the Crysis outdoor scenes look great, but inside the shacks and indoors looks quite awful.

Hah probably far beyond the effective Hz range. How much of a gain do you get past 710 or so? Hope all goes well! BTW the stock gtx 260 is now $240 with Crysis Free!
