I totally concur with this point. I've had both SLI and GX2 and I've read enough about Crossfire and ATI X2 to know that compatiblity is something you need to consider when buying a card. For me the ATI 4870 is the best bang for the buck this time around but I look forward to seeing how nVidia plans to attack back on the single GPU side of things...

Yup, I switched. 2 main reasons why. This and I wasn't all that impressed with the performance gain so figured since I had to hassle with returning, I might as well try the competitor.

BFG was #2 of the worst overheating offenders...

I'm going to upgrade end of Oct, so if nothing better comes out before then I think I'll go with the 280 MSI version... I'd like to hear hands on results of someone whos used both cards running tough games like Crysis at 1900x1200 resolutions w/AA, not benchmarks as they never mention the microstuttering, they just post #s

That poll is extremely misleading.

All that means is that more people have BFG and EVGA cards, not that they are more prone to overheating.

The results should not have been broken down by brand IMO.

How can you be sure about that? seems like a pretty big assumption, have facts? Could it be equally possible that these brands have poorer coolers on them or are doing something else that may be causing the issue?

No, in this forum that means that practically all members have BFG or EVGA cards, but if you search in google a lot of people is having overheating issues with all brands (XFX, Zotac..etc), it´s more visible in this two brands because are top sellers.

They all use the same reference design coolers from nvidia, they just put their own sticker on them. eVGA and BFG are easily the most widespread brands, at least in the USA. You can actually buy them in retail stores, where as most others you cannot.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say flat out that the results of that poll are practically worthless. I see a lot of people getting the wrong idea about it and considering how often this forum pops up on google I'm surprised we haven't had any BFG or eVGA reps in here pointing out that it doesn't mean their cards have more problems.

that overheating problem was a bug on first release cards sure of it . never get overheating trouble with mine . well i did at first but i sourced it to everest i installed a new version and everything is fine

Unlike others i believe Nvidia this round, In my eyes the 4870 x2 was a complete epic failure. It runs like ass Crossfired, produces more heat than elevator full of obese pregnant woman on the way to hell, and has more issues than a than the United states government. Why anyone would buy it is beyond me. I'm yet to see someone give me a good reason to get one the GTX 280 is able of beating it and its single GPU. ****ing fail. Can't wait for the 55nm revision so i can get mine.

This is one of the worst fanboy responses I have ever heard. I like Nvidia, I often invest in their stock, but even Nvidia admits they under estimated ATI.

Secondly, if you're going to stay around here, please do not post such annoying vitriolic criticisms.
