I still could never understand how they could make such a great game, with some of the highest reviews ever, ranted and raved about by damn near everyone, and then turn around with the same people and make that piece of crap that is DX2.
Seriously, how do you go for perfect formula, perfect game, to some POS that holds your hand like you have brain damage through the whole thing? I have little hope for DX3, but you never know. |

Actually, its them trying to make the new game accesible to everyone. The original, while highly praised in reviews, did not have that high of sales and was a mainly a cult success, much like System Shock 2. |

Still, I don't think the "hand holding" was the main problem with Deus Ex 2. BioShock is even more linear and such, but I freaking love that game. Deus Ex 2 just felt kind of clunky... clumsy... whatever the word is. The dialogue was uninteresting, the conflict was bland... I actually like the game, it's too up my alley for me not to, but it just didn't seem as interesting or captivating as so many other similar titles. What I hope from Deus Ex 3, more than anything, is the polish and depth of something like BioShock and a cyberpunk world that is detailed and interesting. How open-ended it is and how many consequences of choice it has are also important, but I have limited expectations there based on the current paradigm. |
