Default Trying to get Kernel 2.6.27-3 to run current 96.xx.xx

I am running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibis and I can not get the current 96.xx.xx driver. When can we expect to see a workable version of 96.xx.xx...... I have tried the 96.43.07 driver and I still get a failure upon running the file.

Have also tried the current 173.xx.xx driver and it still will not run with the current kernel 2.6.27-3-generic. Screen setup did not detect nvidia driver or system monitor.
