Default nVidia SmartDimmer adjustment under Linux

Recently bought a laptop (Sony VAIO VGN-S480) with an nVidia GeForce Go 6200. After messing around some in Windows i figured the nVidia driver had support for adjusting the brightness of the LCD through something called "SmartDimmer". Unfortunately, the nvidia-settings program for Linux seems unable to control this setting. Is there a way to access and adjust this under Linux? If not, is this support planned for a future release?

Found the register that holds this setting. I think Thunderbird will add the ability to change it in nvclock soon. Until then, i wrote a small tool for adjusting it. The tool uses libbackend from nvclock to access the register.

Mine is still going on, i have nVidie 9600 M GT card with the below spesifications.
# lspci -vn | grep VGA
