As suggested in some other thread I set the NVreg_UseVBios module parm to 0 and now I have working console again.

NVreg_UseVBios=0 brings the console back! I wonder what else it does but at least that works. Thanks for posting this!

Hi,
I have a GeForce Go 6800 (NV41.8 rev a2), and linux NVidia drivers v177.80. I still have video corruption when returning to console (even by using NVreg_UseVBios=0). This bug did happen for versions later than 1.0.9631 of NVidia drivers (and for all owners of my laptop, a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M3438G 75001), and occured for all driver versions up to v177.80. Someone owning the same laptop (and experiencing the exact same problem) has since replaced its GeForce Go 6800 by a GeForce Go 7300... and the problem does not happen with this newer card. So it seems related to specific GPU series (like mine), and not particular BIOS configurations. |

Well, don't know why it didn't work at first (even after first reboot).
But now, indeed, it seems to work and pretty well! So NVreg_UseVBios=0 seems to be a valid fix. Thanks for the help. |

... well it worked for drivers 177.80.
Since I updated to linux drivers 177.82, the NVreg_UseVBios=0 tweak doesn't work anymore on my GeForce Go 6800 (console mode is always corrupted after X was started). EDIT: It seems my option was gone, and after correcting it, I still had to reboot multiple times before it was taken into account. Strange behaviour... |

Hi baastrup,
In LINUX, there are 6 tty. Each tty provides graphical interface to users. If you have problem with the nvidia driver, get the latest updates from the Internet. Though the problem continues, change your graphic card. Currently, you are using the latest BIOS version. Sometimes, some old graphic cards can't work properly with newly updated version. Hope, my guidance may help you. |
