Default GeForce 7900 GS driver install Fedora

I am having a tough time getting the newest nvidia video driver to work on my new Fedora 9 installation. My first attempt to run the installer resulted in an error suggesting that I specify the location of my kernel source "--kernel-source-path"

turned into
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.80-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path="/usr/src/kernels/"
When running it like that, another error came up that it was "compiled with the wrong somthing" (i know, im really good with the technical verbage :P). I read somewhere to name the kernel so my command is now

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.80-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path="/usr/src/kernels/" --kernel-name="2.6.25-14.fc9.i686"
now those two "2.6.25.." and "2.6.26.." are clearly not the same thing, but my uname -r gives the "2.6.25..", and i cannot seem to find a directory that this installer is satisfied with other than the one named "2.6.26.."

I hope I have painted a complete [enough] picture of what I have done. this last command I entered went through with the installation, but now when i 'startx' I have a fatal driver error

FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.25-14.fc9.i686/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
giving up.
So now I find myself on my laptop on this forum trying to maybe even restore my old video driver if nothing else, just so i can get into the GUI. Thanks for any help I can get, and sorry I dont have my installer log.
