Default Can't set 1280x1024@75hz

I'm runnning the latest 177.80 driver on a GeForce 9500GT I'm trying to set a 1280x1024@75hz lcd monitor (is a Samsung SyncMaster 172v) but it reach only 60hz!
It's just awful at that frequency, so where do I fail?

With previous PC (a GeForce4 with legacy driver) I could reach that configuration easily with same LCD monitor!

Please, can you help me?

this is my xorg.conf

Default Re: Can't set 1280x1024@75hz

Thanks for the hints. On top of what you did I've found to force a specific mode on power up I needed to add "Virtual 1920 1440" in the Screen->Display SubSection.

Code:
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
