Yes it did, I'm back to DX9 w/AA enabled as well, hopefully Moria will resolve the issues, if not I'm willing to live with DX9.

Wow, I can't believe you guys think DX9 with AA looks better than DX10.

The shadows, lighting and water in DX10 are so much better looking that I can live with jaggies. Of course I'm running at 1920x1200 which helps too!

I didn't say DX9 looked better, I agree the shaders in DX10 look great, but the trade off of killing AA and post-processing is not worth making in my eyes. And I play at 1920x1200 as well, and the jaggies are still blatant with AA off.

I really miss the shadows and shorelines, but no AA and no post-processing is a great loss, I'm sticking with DX9 for now

Ahh, but you don't have to disable Post Processing Effects, just AA!

I've run DX10 for several hours in a row with no issues with PPE, just make sure AA is off.

As soon as I turn on AA, I reboot, lockup or black screen very quickly.

Of course with each new Catalyst release, I keep trying to turn it on!

Does anyone play this game with nVidia hardware? If so, can you use DX10, PPE and AA all turned on without issue?

I was wondering... what about disabling AA from game, and forcing it from CCC?

I tried that but ATI drivers don't force anything so AA remains disabled.

I played last night again for about 5 hours with no crashes with AA off, DX10 ON, PPE ON.

THe only issue I have is after I zone sometimes I have to hit ALT-ENTER twice to get rid of flashing textures. Annoying but I can deal with that.

So far I am really loving the game!! Great storyline to the quests and FUN!! Also the community is very helpful and mature (unlike a lot of the WoW folks I ran into while playing that game). Reminds me more of the crowd that used to play Dark Age of Camelot...

Post from the LOTRO forums regarding engine optimizations:

"Mines of Moria is not a graphic engine overhaul. However, there have been a handful of new additions and refinements added during its development. Here's a brief run down on some of the new, player perceptible graphic engine-centric updates (DX10-only features noted in list):

* Dual-heightmap landscape technology (tested in Forochel, polished in Moria)
* Reintroduction of Distance Terrain Normal Maps (DX10)
* Player-based keylighting (in specified locations)
* Dynamic shadow casting driven by player-based keylighting (DX10)
* Improved Distant Fog Asset Occlusion (to aid client performance)
* Dual-heightmap landscape Occlusion (to aid client performance)

I should note that the above list are features that the Game Engine Team developed/polished for use primarily by the World Design team. There may be other features included but as they aren't World-specific, my own familiarity is too limited for me to be willing to discuss them. This list does not include any tools enhancements which were also delivered to aid us in developing this expansion pack (and there were many of those as well).

A personal favorite of mine - the combination of our Player-based Keylighting and associated dynamic shadow casting creates a stunning experience! Crawling through Moria, watching the mining structures and stalagmites dynamic cast shadows based on my location - the moving shadows have caused me to jump a few times for fear of monster ambush."

Hmmm, might be time to head over to Forochel and test some framerates, I'm hoping to stretch my current card a little longer but I'll bump to a GTX260/216 if need be.

Hey guys, I just read in the LOTRO forums this morning that folks are able to run DX10 with AA enabled without crashing so long as you disable Stencil Shadows(?).

I'm going to see if I can try that tonight and I'll post the results!
