I have a 280 GTX and just installed the latest version of system tools, which I understand from Tweak Guides is supposed to have temperature-monitoring and fan-control capabilities. I don't see either, under the Performance section or anywhere else. Is it because I don't have an nForce motherboard? I'd like to be notified if temperatures exceed a certain level.

I don't know what system tools is, but check out hwmonitor or evga precision.
Both will read/log gpu temps. |

RivaTuner works great setting the fan speed and overclocking your video card and GPU-Z works great to show you the temperture and the fan speed settings of your card or cards.
