Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem with X hanging and corrupting disk. I do not have any clue but my problem appeared while changing my harddrive. My box is running debian sid with kernel 2.4.20. The motherboard is an Asus A7V8X and card is nvidia TNT2. I change my harddrive for a Maxtor 80Go recently and cannot start X anymore. I hope this information can help to solve the prolem. Thanks. same problem, same card.
the thing that fixed it for me, and fixed it immediately, was to disable DVI and TV out. it seems the card was searching those outputs before going to the CRT, so you sit around for 4 minutes with a black screen before you can log in. only problem is i can't remember what the disable commands are, and I just wiped my harddrive in an ill-timed adventure with gentoo. (so i'm in the same boat now with the mega wait until i can remember or re-find those xfconfig switches). it's something really simple, like "no dvi, no tv" in the driver section or something, but look for the disable dvi and disable tv xfconfig options. hth ETA: aha. In the Device section, add Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV" that's what did it for me, anyway. Last edited by monomakh; 08-24-03 at 01:19 PM. |

monomakh, you saved the day
![]() I'm using a Flat Panel Display Laptop, so I added the line: Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP" and *presto*, I got video! For some reason, I had an option set to ignore the EDID (the monitor's electronic description of its capabilities), and that was making my resolution all screwy. I fixed that by doing: Option "ignoreEDID" "0" (this is the default setting) Thanks! ( redhat 9.0 dell laptop ) |
