I don't think the Bloomfield version of Nehalem is exactly mainstream. In Q3 2009 Intel is going to release Lynnfield which is supposed to be the mainstream Nehalem.

Back to the motherboards.
The EVGA board posted by jAkUp has good layout for 3-way SLI. The board looks simple comparing to some other X58 boards. Maybe it's just some early not final version. I think the 3 green DIMM slot would look better in blue.

Good for EVGA first time supporting CrossFire, I think this is more thanks to the X58 Chipset.

The board is most likely not going to be ready at i7 launch time so I'm not going to put it on my shortlist.

Still leaning towards the Asus P6T Deluxe since the Foxconn Quantum Force 'Blood Rage' X58 posted by lee63 is also not going to be ready at i7 launch time. That is definitely good looking board. The layout doesn't look any good for 3-way SLI, something I probably will never have need for anyway.

The only CPUs Intel are releasing in the near future are Bloomfields so why are you even talking about anything else? All the boards in this thread are for Bloomfields.

These mainstream processors you are talking about are called Lynnfield, they won't be released for nearly 9 months and are not even the same socket (LGA1156) as these Bloomfields (LGA1366). They probably won't even be called Core i7. By the time they come out we will probably be nearing the release of Bloomfield's successor, Westmere.

If you want to buy a Nehalem CPU for your desktop then your only realistic option until Q3/4 09 is going to be Bloomfield. Yes they are meant to the slightly higher end, but they aren't these uber-clocking variants you're talking about. Only the top of the line Bloomfield will be an Extreme Edition CPU. What that specifically means for this range of CPUs we are yet to find out.

Honestly, at this point I am not too concerned what either party releases. I've yet to do anything with my rig that will tax my stock Phenom, if anything I'll sooner upgrade my 9600s than I'll replace this Phenom. Then again, I'd like to upgrad CPU, GPU, Mem, and mobo at the same time... but as I've stated this current rig chews through everything I throw at it. No sweat.

As is both options from either side will be far more than sufficient for the vast majority of computer users.

Well, I've heard a lot of good information about it... but that's just it- "heard". As in nothing that is official, obviously. Myself, I remain very optimistic of AMD's future. Granted, the current lineup really isn't or par with the current Core2's, clock for clock- but even at that AMD's procs are far from chumps. They're still very decent performers. And with the near infinitely deep wallet AMD *might* be able to draw from in the near future, their products can become even more impressive.

In short, I'm pretty stoked about the competition the coming years will see.
