Yeah, you're using a 6600 LE right?
I don't imagine anything runs too good with that.

I wouldn't bother with anything more expensive unless you have plenty of money to drop on hardware right now.

Yeah the GTX260 is the best "bang for your buck". The ATI 4800 series cards are aweful good right now, and a tad bit cheaper, but I like the extra memory the 260's have. (512MB vs. 896MB) I believe most future games will benefit from the extra memory on board, if you're a fan of AA and AF.

Yeah the 4870 looks like a great card, but its generally pretty even with the 260. They're either very close in most benchmarks or one or the other is dominating.
It just comes down to price and game preference. For me, being familiar with the drivers was a big deciding factor too. I loved my 9600 Pro, but I've been using strictly nvidia for 5 years now, and I used nvidia for 2 years before the 9600.

The 4870's do not come w/ 1G memory as standard, but 512MB. However, there are some 1GB versions being released. These cards are more expensive, and from what Tech said in his original post, they might be out of his price range.
I've never experienced any major driver issues w/ either NVidia or ATI products. Guess I've been the lucky one. I've owned several of each over the years. I must say the ATI 9800pro and the x850xt were probably the best I've ever owned. That is, until I bought the EVGA 9800GTX+ 2 months ago. I do like the CCC of ATI better than NVidia's control panel. And now I'm waiting on my EVGA GTX260 216core card. I should have it tomorrow.....should be a beast!! ![]() With 896MB of memory, I still say the GTX260 is hard to beat on the price\performance front. Kapt

Do you use the Q9450 for anything worthwhile?

At that price I'd buy the 4870 1GB it's faster than the GTX260 and has more memory.....wow.

![]() I was thinking less of buying a new motherboard for an AMD and more of OC'ing an 8400 or such like.
