The last "high end" card ( when purchased ) I had was a 6800 Ultra. I started with a Diamond Monster 3D and went through 3 RIVAs, V2 SLI, and GeForce's but I left the hobby at 6 series. What's "the ****" now?

4870x2 if you like running "single" card in crossfire (not always supported, which sucks)
GTX280 if you prefer single card altogether. |

The HD 4870 x2 may be the most powerful single slot solution ,but you still run into problems like you do with crossfire. If crossfire is not supported then you are basically running a single HD 4870. IMO the best single slot with one GPU is the Nvidia GTX 280.But don't get me wrong they are both great cards .I would go with two GTX 260 216 shaders and run them in SLI.Even the GTX 260 with 192 shaders is a great deal since you can get two of them for under $500 and will beat a HD 4870x2 in most games.Others words you can't go wrong with a 4870 1gig ,4870x2 or a GTX 280 or the GTX 260.

The 280 is a fine card, but 4-series Crossfire deserves some merit. It's practically transparent to the user. It's very dependable, which is why you see the 4870X2 running away from the 280 in most benchmarks. I've owned an 8800 Ultra, then an HD4870 and now Crossfire. And I'd say give me Crossfire over anything.

I think the 4870x2 is a great card.the only thing I have ever said is that it is a card with two GPU .When They get a driver set up for it with a game ,then it runs games great.I just have a problem when you compare a single GPU to a double GPU.thats all.Sure it is the fastest single slot card solution. But I think it would be more of a fair comparison if nvidia had a GTX 265x2 out.But they don't ,so the 4870x2 is the fastest single slot solution out and the GTX280 is the fastest single GPU solution out.IMO

Dead Space and fallout 3 but work with no problems in crossfire for me. I kept my ati performance window open on 2nd lcd and watched for card activity and it was in the 90s on both cores.
