My BFG core 192 won't let me go higher then 730 on the core using the evga precision tool for whatever reason. If I set it higher it just reverts back. I haven't had time to tweak my new card out yet but I have gone to 702/1458/1203 and made it trough 3D 06' with no visable artifacting. I know though I can't get above 1500 on shader as I tried and got corruption . TBH though I just go back to eVGA FTW speeds and call it good

Also your experience isn't unheard of. I see these stories a lot over at R3D. People going with the 4870's becasue on paper they're beating 260's but in real world it seems like a lot of peolpe are having issues with them. So they try the 260 out and with most don't look back after they do.
Mine is water cooled... this was with my quad. Its ATI Tool and Furmark stable too.

Microstutering is about frame rate issue with multi-GPU setups.
Therefore what ever your problem is, it's not microstutering.

If he were running an older Creative card and Windows 98 maybe. But he has an X-Fi and Vista x64.

That's odd: I have the some mobo as you and I don't have a single problem with my hd4870x2.

It's just another TweakTown review tweaked too make look the NVIDIA card better.

Why do other sites show the cards just about even or each card better only in particular games? That applies when compared without AA used. When higher AA is applied the HD 4870 almost always gets better frame rate and the AA is all about IQ. The ATI 4000 line scaling better with AA is documented on just about every review.

Well other reviews compare the GTX 260 (core 216) to HD 4870 1GB both cards are in about the same price range. TweakTown used the HD 4870 512 MB and forgot to mention it.

For me based on other not tweaked reviews the HD 4870 1GB is still better choice.

I run vsync in all my games @ 60fps.

In addition, I owned a single 4870 before going Crossfire with two of them, and then my 4870X2s. Never experienced the stuttering that you're getting.

That is not what microstutter is. That's hitching. "Micro" stutter you cannot see (hence the term "micro," as in microscopic), you feel it. It's like a lag in the framerate, but no hitching like you're getting.

Pretty nice overclocks, but why would you go with a 260? By the time you bought all the watercooling stuff couldn't you have just got a 280 that performed better?

If they would have use a 4870 with 1gig of memory ,you would have seen the 4870 winning most of the benchmarks.

They trade blows for the most part depending on the game, you also have to remember that the GTX 260's overclock like mad and also scale a bit better (performance wise) from the overclock vs a HD 4870 which has also been overclocked.

Honestly either card is a great choice and for those of you who like 8XAA or more go with the ATI series as they scale better than Nvidia with high levels of AA.

I had everything to cool it except the bracket (for the Fuzion GFX). Cost me $8 shipped. I got the GTX 260 for $200 back when they were still $300. I made out. RMA'd my last HD4870 and got the $280 back, bought this for $200 + $8 bracket, money in my pocket, much better card and gaming experience. My HD4870 @ 900 core and 4400mhz memory gets smoked by this thing in 3dmark and real world gaming using FRAPS. Plus they don't spontaneously die like the 4870s tend to.
