Default Replacing a Geforce4 MX... Suggestions??

I recently bought a Shuttle SN41G2 with a built-in Geforce4 MX graphics chipset. I haven't been happy with the 2D performance of the graphics, even after the latest driver release, although it did help somewhat.

I've decided to purchase an AGP card to replace the built-in chipset. Any suggestions? My primary goal is smooth 2D performance (window dragging, scrolling, etc). I don't use the box for gaming, so 3D performance is not an issue. The card need not be nVidia, although I've got plenty of experience with their drivers.

Thanks for any advice...

... dual monitor support a BIG plus. Of course, this box is running Linux, not Windows ...

Default new video card

unfortunately, i'd suggest a radeon. they have good 3d performance too, altho they don't have the DXTC working in the driver, so if u want to play ut2k3 or something, better stick with the nvidia.

a ti4200 or so would be good too. the gf4mx was stripped down so much that it was basically a gf2. if you can find a gf3 for a decent price, it'll beat the performance.

third, if the 2d performance is awful, you may have problems with your window manager or some other application. Try using 'switchdesk' to move from gnome to kde or the other way. or try twm, i like it best, and it's simplest.

good luck.
