Ah well, I'll buy a newer card and slave the 8800 GTX for offline CUDA work. I was getting bored having to kill X every time one of my CUDA programs failed, else risking the entire system freezing seconds after.

(I don't have a desperate need to accelerate decoding but I am keen to integrate the technology into my streaming TV application, so I'll need a card to work on.)

Am I correct in assuming that things like subtitles will not work? The readme states that osd /picture comoposites don't work. Will this (osd/subtitles) have to be adapted to use the internal Vdp objects?

I also got the assert at line 637 when attempting to play any content, including the samples.

This line indicates failure at the call to vdp_decoder_create and the status code is 25 - the catch all error, so no help there.

My hardware is an 8800GT

No. I have an 8800GT which uses a G92 chip.

OK. G92 should work. Does this happen on all the samples; did you try MPEG and H.264?

VC-1 isn't supported on G92.

Yes, I read that and didn't try any VC-1 content. I tried multiple mpeg and h.264 files including samples, as I mentioned. All returned the same error.

I also wrote a little test app that makes a few basic vdp calls and queries the decoder limits. That runs and returns meaningful results.

What version of libx264 does the SVN snapshot that the script pull require? When I when to compile it I got the following error:

I'm getting the same thing. Running Debian Lenny amd64 here with all system packages updated. I tried gcc-3.4, gcc-4.1, gcc-4.2 and gcc-4.3 and all result in the same error.
