Default unable to initialize kernel module -- nvidia module is loaded though

Hello,

I have a strange problem with the drivers...it has always worked, now it doesn't anymore :\

I'm using Gentoo 1.4
Tried about all xfree86 version in portage available, and all nvidia drivers
that were there, i always end up with the same error

I have collected some data, feel free to ask for more...i'm getting desperate.

XF86Config is not included, as I know it is totally correct, lots of people have doublechecked it too and they were all "huh?!" I messed with
the NvAGP option and agpgart module but that didn't do the trick either.

This is the output using the nvidia.o module.
Note, it doesn't seem to matter if i already have nvidia.o loaded because if i rmmod it, startx, lsmod shows it again, yet unused....

Another strange thing to notice that apparantly the video bios is ??.??.??
? Works fine with windows and other linux distro's... weird

Oh yeah..I'm using the card Geforce 2 MX200
i can see it in lspci -n -> d010:0x0111 <- or something like that...i found it in the glxguide and it is there allright.

Below, some collected info...the full thing is in the attachment.

Any help deeply appraciated, I and plenty of others who've tried, have not a single clue of what's wrong.

I use an amd760 board...(tried putting on/off in kernel as earlier there were some known issues with it...didn't work..)

I tried about everything..

Have you tried loading the modules manually (with modprobe) ? What does lsmod say?

You can also try assigning an IRQ for VGA in the BIOS.

yes, tried that...
no difference, lsmod says just the same
loaded yet unused.

are there other options before i get into the bios stuff?
I mean, my bios isn't very clear about it..so i have always let it
be auto-assign...

thanks for your reply though

The resources can be controlled automatically (ESCD) but there should be a special option called "Assign IRQ for VGA"->enabled/disabled as well. In my Phoenix Award BIOS it is in the "PnP/PCI Configurations" section. I'd try that first.

Have you tried recompiling the driver to your kernel's interfaces? Does depmod -va show any unresolved symbols ?

BTW, if you want to use nVidia's AGP driver (Option "NvAgp" "1") then the agp-kernel-module (or compiled-in kernel-support for AGP) must be deleted/disabled.

Ok, I'll try..there's no such thing as assign irq for vga though..just
assign for pci 1, 2, ... i'll grab for my manual

the driver is built against my current kernels sources. No
unresolved symbols.

I'm aware of that..tried that. Now I'm using NvAGP 3 which first tries agpgart and then nvagp itself....no luck
