The cooler on these cards is awesome compared to the 8800GT's, i have my GTX 260 @ 702HMz clock core, 1404MHz shader's & 1125MHz memory, it idles at 39-41c and running furmark at default setting for 30mins i seen a highest temp of 86c, then the cards fan kicked in and it dropped to and stayed at 84c! ... decent temps.

Sounds familiar. If your motherboard has only one slot clearance between the pci-e slots, it is taken up by the dual slot cooler and so the cooler of the top card is effectively suffocating.
Someone LOL'd at me for saying it, but I will say it again - SLI/Crossfire boards with only one slot between the two pci-e slots is flawed by design for using dual slot cards. Bad.

Perhaps, however, the cards exchange temps when I switch them.

Interesting. Then one card may be defective.

It sure is, I should RMA it, but I don't think I can, as I bought them second hand.

Ah. Shame. Just checked Zotac warranty (as you mave have already yourself)..

Quote:
Warranty Registration
ZOTAC offer extended warranty (up to 5 years) when registering 14 days after purchase. Customer gets 5 years extended warranty if the card should fail. After the 2 years regular warranty, ZOTAC will directly offer the warranty to the customer.

Therefore the customer has to:

- Register within 14 days from purchase
- Card is not tempered/manually damaged
- Card has not been registered by other customer before
- Send the card with original (readable) receipt to service center
- Printed RMA form with all information clearly filled out

o mentioning of the serial number
o unique identifier number
o card
Might be worth giving them a call/email though. Never know unless you try..
Good luck.

I have a question. I got my hands on a Inno3d GTX 280, same problem, after 5 - 10 mins of Crysis or 2 - 3 mins of Furmark temps get to 105. It is weird that temps stay at 105, no artefacts, no higher temps, no slowdowns... however the cooler stays at 100% making a horrible noise. Clearly there is a problem; RMA is out of the question, I got the card without warranty, long story...

Is there a chance to help if I change the thermal paste? I saw some cloth-like paste on the memory chips and regulators, and some grey goo on the GPU. If not the thermal paste, what can I do to keep it below 105. Would water cooling help?

105c BFG in furmark here.... FPS is 100+ before it hits 105c and the card throttles down and fps drops a lot.

Never let it go longer than 30 seconds.

Getting an RMA with BFG

Artifacting and Driver crashing @ 85ish °c. Does it for Wow, Farcry 2, TF2. Only thing that stops it is leaving fan @ 100% speed.

Oddly, doesn't do this in Vista now, only happened in XP.

Hello Everyone,

Cross post from other thread just to show EVGA SCC 280 Results

Got my GTX280, I am very happy with the results. Ran Furmark 5 mins. Strange how the memory clocks do not match.
Thank you,
Monnie
