A buddy of mine 'lent' me his copy of Windows 7 build 6801 x86. So I installed it on my other HD just to check it out. Let me tell you this is what Vista should've been. Its smoking fast, like XP. Games runs butter smooth, much better than my Vista x64 installation.
I've had no issues even enabled the new interface. I cant wait till they put out an official RC of this, from this build I'm really excited over this new OS. Even if you hated Vista you will love Windows 7 - it has more of an XP feel to it, stuff just pops up really fast. I just hope they dont clutter it up with all the crap Vista has with a default installation. Idle on a clean boot ram usage is about 650-700MB. Vista pre SP1 was about 1.2GB, SP1 about 1GB and SP2 beta is around 900MB. This OS uses alot less system resources and you can actually feel it. |

Since disabling Aero, my Vista has been just right. No driver crashes and much snappier.

Ok, so what about device drivers?
For example, have you installed sound card drivers, video drivers, etc?

If Windows 7 is Vista with XP speeds, then count me in. I'll try and grab a x64 copy from work when a beta or RC is released.

I use 6801 on my Laptop as main OS, all drivers installed
Even with Aero enabled, with the new W7 visual scheme, it is faster than vista. But I have never had an issue with Vista on my desktop, many things in it feel more responsive than in XP IMO |

Vista drivers for GTX 260 and my sound card was installed from Windows update. So far very very very happy. XP speeds with Vista security and look. I'm extremely impressed for far.

I'm a little surprised to hear such good reports on Windows 7 so far. But then again, there are a lot of Windows humpers around here.
I am curious about giving it a shot, maybe in a VM or something. |
