Default Re: mplayer vdpau

So far not matter what I have done whenever I try to play a video file I get perfect sound, but the image is simply a large green rectangle.

I have tried:
a) the initial patches to mplayer provided by nvidia
b) the updated patches to HEAD mplayer provided in this thread
c) the ubuntu packages provided in this thread

All play a green rectangle.

The 180.08 driver is installed and is being used. I have an 8400GS.

Isn't it meant to work with mencoder ?

This won't work with mencoder. You can't offload encoding with the gpu with this.

You must have installed nvidia driver 180.06 or 180.08 ; those packages do not check if the drivers have been installed , it assumes they are

64 bits packages will be available later today...

very thanks! (64bits)

one question offtopic.. mplayer packages include all codecs? dirac, aften, NUT, ASS/ASA, TrueHD/EAC3, MPL, etc etc?

If you're talking about the packages I've created, they are compiled with exactly the same options as Ubuntu's 8.10 original package

Here is the output of what is and isn't enabled in those packages:

'config.h' and 'config.mak' contain your configuration options.
Note: If you alter theses files (for instance CFLAGS) MPlayer may no longer
compile *** DO NOT REPORT BUGS if you tweak these files ***

'make' will now compile MPlayer and 'make install' will install it.
Note: On non-Linux systems you might need to use 'gmake' instead of 'make'.

Please check mtrr settings at /proc/mtrr (see DOCS/HTML/en/video.html#mtrr)

Check configure.log if you wonder why an autodetection failed (make sure
development headers/packages are installed).

NOTE: The --enable-* parameters unconditionally force options on, completely
skipping autodetection. This behavior is unlike what you may be used to from
autoconf-based configure scripts that can decide to override you. This greater
level of control comes at a price. You may have to provide the correct compiler
and linker flags yourself.
If you used one of these options (except --enable-gui and similar ones that
turn on internal features) and experience a compilation or linking failure,
make sure you have passed the necessary compiler/linker flags to configure.

If you suspect a bug, please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

After checking, E-AC3 and MLP have been in mplayer trunk for at least 6 months now and do not require any particular patching..

As such ; those codecs are included in my previous package..

Packages have been uploaded there (updated to SVN 27979 too)

That was the mplayer developers attempt at creating the ultimate container format. I don't know if they ever finished the development but they did enjoy arguing over the design for weeks and weeks.

Hey I just installed your mplayer_1.0-svn27979-vdpau-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb and when I run it all I get is "Segmentation fault".
Can you double check it or something?

Why are the 6/7 series not supported? I'm pretty sure that video acceleration works on these cards in Windows. I use a 7800GT.
