Hello,
I just replaced my two older video cards with a GeForce FX 5200. The old cards were: - AGP GeForce MX 440 - PCI Vanta I was previously running Xinerama with these cards, both using the nvidia driver. I just pulled them out and put in a 5200, reconfigured X (still using Xinerama -- not TwinView). Performance is very, very slow, particularly with font antialiasing in QT/KDE.. Looking at top shows the CPU getting hammered by X, the load goes up to 4 if there's a lot of font drawing. I've tried re-installing the nvidia driver (I'm using version 4496) and I've upgraded my KDE/QT packages to the latest... still very high cpu usage from X. Any ideas? |

Ok -- posting reply to my own thread -- I've fixed the problem by enabling TwinView. I guess having GLX on both displays really helps -- it's much, much faster now and isn't using so much CPU.
