The errors you posted all appear to be regular MPlayer/ffmpeg messages; nothing to do with VDPAU. Does the stream play OK using the ffmpeg SW decoder?

HIGH profile should work OK.

We're aware of the "frame switching" problem, on at least some H.264 clips, and hope to resolve it in some future driver release.

Stephen-

I'll post the output for a HIGH profile h264 movie, they all end the same way.

./mplayer -vc ffh264vdpau -vo vdpau /tmp/test.mkv

I'm also seeing the same mixed up frames as everyone else on the movies that do work, but it sounds like that's a known issue.

Thanks again for your work on this project. It's finally putting a reasonable htpc within reach...

The window opens very briefly showing a green screen and then mplayer exits.

All the same .mkv files that I have tried play fine when not using vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau using the same mplayer binary. (at least as far as my underpowered CPU lets them).

I am using an 8800GT if that helps with the 180.08 driver.

That's odd; there's no VDPAU-related error message here.

Does this file play correctly with SW decoding; (i.e. -vc ffh264)?

Finally, can you run MPlayer under gdb, place a breakpoint in "exit", run the command, and get a backtrace ("bt" in gdb) once you hit the breakpoint?

Thanks.

That's the strange thing. When using your mplayer build, i have to play it about 5 times before it plays (w/o vdpau) or I get the same problem. Something is weird, but i've done nothing out of the ordinary. With vdpau, no matter how many times I try... nothing. Using my distro's mplayer, everything plays fine every time.

here's the info you requested:

I don't provide repository information... (I will look on how to do so...)

Simply download the two packages
libx264-65 and mplayer_1.0-svn28045-vdpau
and type sudo dpkg -i libx264065...deb mplayer...deb

I will remove the dependencies on shroedinger etc... never used them before , it's more of a pain than anything else

I've improved things... I'm new to Ubuntu, always been a redhat guy for 10 years, so those deb stuff are new to me..
You'll be happy as I've left those dependencies as it will all be automatically installed now...

Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list
Code:
deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos files/
deb-src http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos files/
you can add those in synaptic too..

Now to install mplayer with vdpau patches simply type:
sudo apt-get install mplayer

Updates will be automatic from now on ... and all dependencies will be installed...
