Psu good enugh for 260 core 216?

So you have to check how much juice you have on the 12v line(s)

It might be fine for now but I would be suprised if it holds up much longer, its never good to run a PSU at its max capacity for an extended period of time. If his PSU goes out it could also take out the rest of his system along with it.

Never skim on the PSU when buying nice hardware.

Dual rail PSU's are probably of the worst design because if im not mistaken ONE of those 12v rails are entirely wasted on the CPU alone leaving the other rail left to power the rest of the system.

Its just not a good design for a high end gaming system because of the fact that you can easily overload the second 12v rail which is left over to power your GPU and all of the other accessories.


Your better off with a good powerful SINGLE 12v rail PSU as the power from that one rail is dedicated to the entire system and all your components can draw the power that it needs without having to worry about overloading the 12v rail.

It might but I would say that you would probably be pushing the upper limits of that PSU and depending on the rest of your system and how much overclocking you do it could be a little bit to much on that PSU for the long term.

This would be a better PSU to fit the job of 260's in SLI as it would provide a bit more head room to work with.

I would get either a SiverStone OP750 watt or a Corsiar 750watt for $119 or the PC Power & Colling 750watt for $115 and they all have 60 amps on the 12v rails.Plus a 750 watt with 60amps will run two GTX 260's.If you are just going to run one then the Antec Earthwatts 650watts for $49 with do a good job.

I have the same hx620 but I'm going for a single stock clocked 260. Reading some reviews gives me the notion that if I'm not using sli, then I should be fine.

You are so right about the rails, it makes little sense these days to have more then one rail.
Shopping for PSU's can be real pain, essential information is not always listed etc

I decided to give it a try with my current psu, if I detect any type of slow downs or instability Im fairly sure where the problem is and in that case I order a new psu right away, else I wait till next month and get a good one

I'd like to have one of those modular types so I can rid the cables I don't need. Tt had some nice looking psu's but I don't know if they are single rail design yet.

UPDATE:
Installed the card last night and it works perfectly thus far.

I did not see a huge boost in FPS at my resolution of 1680x1050. Thinking my cpu is the bottle neck, however with FSAA the new card really shines so I'm more then happy.
Temperatures seems normal at 42c idle and 70-75c while gaming.

I played mostly Sacred 2 last night with ingame option of 4x AA (forcing AA in this game don't work ), this used to kill performance on my 8800Gt, Now it's silky smooth
