Yeah. If you buy retail you cannot use both 32bit AND 64bit at the same time. :: Will need two keys...

If you really want Vista, get 64bit. But I'd just wait till 7.

Which version allows you to install both 32bit/64bit?

How long will it be until Windows7 is released?

None will let you install both and have them activated at the same time. You'll have to buy 2 copies. They need separate keys.

If you want 32 OR 64 bit, but not at the same time. You can buy Ultimate Retail. it comes with 32 and 64 bit version, but just one key. You'll have to uninstall one to activate the other and possibly call MS.

7 is in Beta right now so give it another year or so.

crainger,

Thank you for the quick responses and great information you have provided. Waiting more than a year is too long. I waited this long to see Vista mature and have been ready for 64bit for a while now. Concerned because some of the software I use for work is not compatible with Vista 64. All personal software and entertainment software I have works with Vista64. Not just a cut/dry decision. The rig I am using now ( one with XP Pro 32 bit) I want to give to my Mother. So, my XP will be gone.

Thank you,
Monnie

Well, if you are getting new hardware and XP is going with the old machine. An OEM version of Vista 64 would be ideal. Ultimate if you want the lot, but Business and Home Premium and good too.

Would be a perfect plan except my non-vista 64bit compatible work software. Should just quit work and play games all day/night

Opps. Sorry, missed that part in first post. Well 32bit should be fine. It's not as robust as 64bit and it wont make full use of 4Gb RAM and above, but it should be fine and let you play with Vista in the time it takes 7 to arrive. ::

You haven't thought of running virtual pc and installing XP? Vista 64 should be good for everything else.

No need for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

Thank you everyone for your input.

The situation has changed. My Girlfriend saw me looking at all the versions of Vista ( OEM,64bit,32bit,etc) and now has told me she ordered 66R-02261 as a gift for Christmas. Guess I am stuck with full retail NA DVD.

Thank you,
Monnie
