Question Performance problems Ubuntu 8.10 (64bit) Nvidia 8800gt Drv NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-177.82

Hello,

I have the newest version of the Linux driver installed on my Ubuntu 8.10 (64bit) box and I am having serious performance issues. Here are my specs:

Nvidia 8800gt
6GB Ram
AMD Quad core 9500
Ubuntu 8.10 64bit (up to date as of today)
Driver - NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-177.82 (your driver NOT from the repo's)

When I am playing any 3d games (Nexuiz/OpenArena) I get a real slow down in FPS and the graphics look to be "choppy".... In all games I am getting a bit of jitterness or delay. It's weird because I used this card in a much lower end box that had half the RAM and only a dual core AMD 64 (that was on Kubuntu).

I did try all of the recommendations listed in the top of the forum and nothing seemed to help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Try passing "nopat" to the kernel.

maybe you are suffering the same "bug" as me and as described here?

Try to look in the Nvidia X server settings if your card ever reaches higher performance levels, in my case whatever I do it goes maximum to the level 1 which is nv clock 275 mem clock 300. It never reaches higher performance levels.

I have a 9800 gts mobile, should arrive to nvclock 600 mem clock 800 according to the powermizer, so far I failed to find a solution to this...
