Default Issues With Ubuntu Server 8.10 - NVIDIA Kernel Module Not Loading

My problems with my integrated Nvidia gpu (nforce 630i / GeForce 7100) is rendering me to a 800 x 600 screen. So far I tried installing the headers for this kernel (2.6.27-9-server) then installing the video drivers from Nvidia themselves as well as installing the same propitiatory video drivers from the Synaptic and in System -> Hardware Drivers. Sadly all I'm getting for my efforts is a message before login screen that says "(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!" .

I had issues with Ubuntu Server before yet went to desktop route after giving up, now that I'm up to 4gigs RAM I'm moreso stuck with this issue until things are figured out (no way am I wasting 1gig of RAM and not doing 64bit upgrade anytime soon) so any help would be GREATLY appreciated

I also attached a log file.

Try removing from your xorg.conf file the line:
Quote:
Load "type1"
Then add to the screen section:
Quote:
Option "NoLogo" "True"
You also have a problem with the 4GB your running. According to your bug report:

AWWWWWWWWWWW YEAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Thanks! It was REALLY the 4GB in error report that really tipped me off to finding the solution! I think I also fiddled with the xorg.conf file but I don't think that did much of anything since I was still getting the error.

Even though I'm on Ubuntu Server which can see more of the 4GB RAM then Desktop edition, I still hit the roadblock which is the error I was continually receiving. So just going into BIOS and changing "Top Of Memory Under 4GB" to around 1.75GB fixed everything!!! Smooth GUI FTW!!!
