one question: will this card work with my Asus P5B Deluxe? since it's not a SLI MOBO...
it supports Crossfire but not SLI... so will one of these cards work or will i be better off sticking to single chip cards?

Chris i have a simple question as my 8800GTX is pretty old and i'll probably get a GTX295. Is it the same size as the 8800GTX or is it bigger? My case doesn't have a lot of space so if it's bigger than the 8800GTX i'll probably should reconsider it (the funny thing is that my temps are low even with my 8800GTX overclocked at 630/2020 so there surely won't be temps issues with the new GPU )

Nah. Needs new memory, new mobo. My system still got plenty of power.

Pretty much all the Nvidia cards have been the same length since the 8800GTX. It is a little thicker. Its a little thicker but still doesnt obstruct the 3rd device slot below it.

I can give basic answer to this now. Quad SLI scales dependent on how GPU limited you are. What people dont realize about the 9800GX2 is its profile drivers are identical to 3 way SLI and 2 way SLI. WHat kills the 9800GX2 is just having 512 megs of memory. For the most part this is not a big issue for the GTX295. It is possible to starve the GTX295 of its memory at the highest resolutions ((2xxx/16xxx)) with 8x multisampling. But honestly you'd like opt for 8x/16xCSAA at those resses or 4x multisampling. Unlike the 9800GX2 I dont think memory is gonna be a huge problem for this card in its lifespan. Which suffered memory related problems very early on its lifetime.

As far as Microstuttering goes. That really depends on games. Settings. and overall FPS. Quad SLI is no more or less forgiving than 2 way SLI in this regard.

Are we looking at the same graph?
Yes but the min fps posted isn't the average of those ten seconds but the lowest fps, which according to that graph lasted about one millisecond. And that dip just looks weird to me as the other two cards show an increase in fps whilst the 4870x2 shows the exact opposite. And why did they only test the game for 120 seconds?

This is one of those cases where Hardocp's test methodology can be useful. Just looking at minimums without knowing where they occur is just as pointless as not looking at them. If these minimum framerates are occuring at the very start point where the game is loading. Then they arent really relevant. If they are occuring consistently throughout gameplay. Thats a different story.

When looking at my cards. I have noted that the lows start out low when the scene just loads. Then goes away entirely in fallout 3 and Crysis for me.

We see.

Do you think there will be a patch to run Gtx 295 SLi on exisiting Crossfire motherboards (Rampage Formula) as most people have crossfire boards but will be put off Quad SLi due to changing there motherboards.

and

Will we see Overclocked Versions on Release like the 280 Gtc OC versions?

thanks

thanks
So I went from 8800GTX to 9800GX2 to 4870X2 to GTX260 core 216.

Pros and cons after suffering through the 9800GX2:

Pros
- Benchmarks show high framerates
- You get SLI and only need one slot
- Was cheaper at the time than buying two individual cards and doing SLI

Cons
- Microstutter - framerates may be high but not consistent
- Driver problems often forced me to disable one core to get games to run properly
- Can take some time to get a new driver that properly supports your game

I will note that these pros/cons are mainly pros/cons of SLI in general...

I will say that I also tried out a 4870X2 and was generally impressed, but even then I had some driver issues with ATI that I don't have on a single core nVidia card.

So for me, just give me a good performing, reasonably priced single core solution from now on and I'm happy. The GTX 260 core 216 is an amazing product as was my 8800GTX before it...

My Single 280 Gtx OC compared to the Gtx295 card: Theres only 51GB/s Bandwidth difference, extra 792MB RAM and less core speed and shader speed per PCB.

So the performance over a single 280 is not really great.

So Why is Nvidia starving us from the GDDR5 1792MB RAM?
Will it be abavailable on OverClocked models?
Hmm

ChrisRay

If possible could you work out a benchmark in your review for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance with single GeForce GTX 295.
