Default Re: Beta: 180.18 doesnt install correctly

For those who still have problems:

1) Locate and uninstall your distro NVIDIA drivers (You can list drivers using these commands: "dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia" (Debian/Ubuntu) OR in RPM based distro: "rpm -qa | grep -i nvidia")
2) Uninstall NVIDIA drivers (e.g. ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.18-pkg0.run --uninstall)
3) Locate and remove all nvidia.ko files in /lib/modules
4) Reinstall NVIDIA drivers

Enjoy

Thanks a lot, that really solve my problem.
What I did, search for *nvidia* in /lib/modules and delete them with "sudo rm -r -f" as there are some folders. THANKX

OH, by the way, i had to install two times the nvidia installer

you guys only want to learn it the hard way, right ?

reboot your box and then,

make sure, you don't have remnants of the old driver on your system and the old module loaded:
Code:
sudo cat /proc/modules | grep nvidia
after that try to re-install it again

if it's still loaded in (cat /proc/modules -> "live") then
Code:
sudo rmmod nvidia
that's in the most cases the easiest solution to do

this doesn't solve all problems but should help in cases where you re-installed the drivers several time and it still doesn't install or load correctly

So I appear to have removed TOO MUCH...

under Ubuntu 8.10, what do I have to install toget rid of the error message when it tries to build the kernel and can't find kernel source?

I never bothered to find out a cause or how to fix it properly to use header files 'cos I'm too lazy,

Just installed the kernel-source package from my distros (both ubuntu and opensuse)

I leave it impossible for ... I stay with the 180.16 version that seems to work and I hope that the stable does not have these installation problems

I can't get it to work.. I boot into low-graphics mode after the install.

installer log attached.

LOL, my full-screen Flash performance is better in low-graphics mode than with 177.82

EDIT: 180.16 installs and loads just fine.. but hangs faster than a convicted axe murderer...
