bug (?): no video signal when moving window or running glxgears (177.82)
On my HTPC I have a 9500GT connected through HDMI to a 1080p TV. X starts with the nvidia driver. However the screen blanks on (at least) two reproducible ways:
(1) when I drag a terminal window the screen blanks and the tv reports "no video signal". After stop dragging, the screen comes back within seconds. As long as the window is visible, dragging is quick and smooth.
(2) When I start glxgears I see the gears for a short period and then the screen blanks (tv reports "no video signal").
glxgears reports around 4500 FPS. When I kill glxgears the screen comes back (eventually).
It also happens when playing video using either mplayer or vlc.
I tried the performance stuff from the stickies without success (Option "PixmapCacheSize" "1000000", Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0", after starting X, run: nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1).
On the same machine I have XP running. In XP everything works fine. Furthermore, when I use the standard "nv" driver that comes with Fedora I can drag windows and playback video without a problem. This makes me strongly think it is a problem with the Linux nvidia driver.
I'm pulling my hair out since I cannot discover anything (obviously) wrong from the logging. Any help is appreciated.
Here's some more info:
Attached is the nvidia-bug-report.log
GPU: GeForce 9500 GT

Running glx gears I get the following output:

Top gives the following output while running glxgears:

Re: bug: linux nvidia drivers + philips HDTV = intermittent blacking out (177.82)
Was: Re: bug: no video signal when moving window or running glxgears (177.82)
I did some furter probing. The intermittent blacking out seems to be related to the combination of the Linux nvidia drivers for the 9500 GT (no problem in XP!) and my Philips TV (model no: 37PFL7603D).
I tried hooking up a 22" Philips monitor (220EW8) (@1680x105) to the computer. No problems. I also tried an older Philips TV 26PF4310. Also no problem. Both are driven through the DVI connection and not through the HDMI connection.
However, the combination of the linux nvidia drivers and the Philips HDTV (37PFL7603D) using the HDMI connection is still causing intermittent blacking out of the screen. If I use the open source nv drivers the problem is gone (but then XVideo is not supported). There is also no problem if I run XP (with nvidia drivers) on the same computer. I checked the Philips website and installed the latest firmware on the TV. No success...
Furthermore I tried as well the 177.82 as the 180.18beta release. Both have the same problem.
I do consider this a bug in the nvidia linux driver since the combination of card and TV works fine in XP and with the open source nv driver. Is this a problem on the bug list or shouldn't I expect any improvement in the future?
BTW, I found some referenties to other people having the same problem:
This guy actually had good luck with an ATI 3450 card with native HDMI and philips HDTV: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2055413070
