So The GTX285 won't be a Sandwich SLI card then...just a 55nm version of the GTX280 ?

That sounds a lot more tempting for me than the GTX295..less power but for a single card solution that could out perform the GTX280 with the option of going SLI later...sweet.

Nice PSU but there are better ones out there that cost a good bit less than the one you paid for.

$99 before MIR 52amps on a single 12v rail

The 295 should avoid a lot of the GX2's problems due to its larger memory interface and ram.

At 2560x you may often be limited to 4xAA though. It should rock 1920x with 8x-16x CSAA.

4xAA uses the same memory as 8x/16xCSAA, Its only 16xQ/8xQ that'd be limited. But honestly.. I'd give a cookie to people who can see big differences between these modes at 2560x1600.

I don't get microstutter with GTX 260 SLi or using Tri-SLi. The 295 will basically have GTX 260 SLi memory subsystem and better shaders. Honestly, I think a lot of the hitching on the GX2 came from its 256Mb memory interface and only 512Mb usable ram.

I'll be trying a 295 in my BX2 rig ASAP and I'll certainly sound off if it stutters.

QFE.

I almost always use "enhance" for 8x-16x CSAA. Looks great and doesn't carry an obscene performance hit. I've yet to notice a difference between it and MSAA.

Oddly enough, at least for me, FC2 with 4xAA set in game and enhanced to 8x-16x CSAA runs smoother than just running 4xAA through the game. So it's win|win. Looks better, runs better.

What is the purpose of the male two pin plug right next to the power connectors, clearly seen in this link (2nd Pic):

?
Is it a fan monitor on the engineering sample?

It might be the SPDIF pass through. You connect it to your sound card so you can get audio through the graphics card's HDMI.
