Default Fedora 10 Kernel Source (newb)

First up, I'm relatively new to Linux, so bear with me for a sec.

Running Fedora 10, and trying to install the 177.82 drivers for my Dell Laptops 8400M GS. I've installed make, the compilers, and the binutils packages, and now I'm stuck at kernel source for the installer to make it's own interface.

I'm downloaded and installed the package kernel-devel-2.6.27.9-159.fc10 (i686) but the NVidia installer still can't see it. That's the only package available, whereas my "About this computer" shows 2.6.27.7-134 as my install. The connect via ftp says there isn't already an interface avail for download.

Do I need to update my kernel, and will the auto-updater that's been bugging the hell out of me do this?

Smaller question, is there a quicker way to terminate X11 than changing /etc/inittab, then rebooting? (I'm damned sure there is, just no idea what the line would be)

Quote:
yum install kernel-devel
it should install the matching kernel devel package, in your case you have installed a newer one.
do
Quote:
yum update
and reboot into the new kernel (-159).

Ah. I had tried just plain "init 3" but that just messed everything up. I shall have to remember the new command.

Problem sorted. Was indeed the wrong kernel source.
