GeForce FX 5200 Slackware 12.2 2.6.27.7

I did a quick search for the kernel version, I found a few fixes for other cards that used different driver lines. IE some in the 96.xx range.

I have a GeForce FX 5200. I did the search for drivers on the nVidia page and found that they said 173.14.12 was the latest for this card. I tried installing it and it didn't work. So I tried to use the one I had installed last when I had Slackware 12.1 with whatever kernel it came with ( 2.6.21.5 I _think_ ).

Anyway I searched through the archived drivers via the nVidia search ( http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us ) and entered in my card. The list I got was different from the one I did with the first search.

It listed the 173.14.12 driver as the nVidia recommended, but I also noticed two 177.XX drivers that were in beta. It warned that the FX5200 was supported in the 173 range and that it will be ignored for the 177 driver, twice. Then it continued as usual. I pressed CTRL+C because I didn't think it would work. I'm going to try it while I wait for someone to post but I doubt it's going to compile anything usable.

I will edit this post with my results of forcing a compile of a 177.67 driver.

It compiled but didn't load. I attached the 173 log and 177 logs.

Just a side note. I noticed while going through the 173 log it mentioned something about the sources or source headers. The error it prompted me with, and I'm assuming is in the log, is that the sources are invalid. I will be looking into this but if anyone knows the sure shot way to get this compiled and installed on a Slackware 12.2 2.6.27.7 kernel, that would be great. It's the default kernel during installation(huge-smp.s)

The first reply(2nd Post) mentions a website slackbuilds. This worked for me.

It seems that the issue is with XOrg/nVidia incompatibilities.
