Default FX 5200, 7300 SE: both with OpenGL

Hello,

I have these both cards:
01:07.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE] (rev a1)

I am using one big screen across both TFTs.

Is it possible to get OpenGL working on both TFTs?

At the moment, on 7300SE OpenGL is working, while 5200 is using "nv" drivers.

Thank you

Tobi

Hi Tobi!

AFAIK that's the best you can get.

Background: FX Cards needs an other Nvidia driver that your GF7 one. But you can only have one installed at a time.

Better solution would be to get rid of the 5200 and get a cheap 8000 or 9000 starting at around 40 USD.

Buying a new card is no option, as the 5200 is new. I bought it three months ago.

Thanks
Tobi

It would be nice if there were a unified driver for all the supported cards...
One could think of a collection of .o files for all supported cards, from which the final kernel module is linked after detection of the cards present in the system. Then it should be no problem to build the driver for all card combinations without having an ever larger kernel module as new cards are supported.
But apparently the internal structure of the driver is different from that.

There are two issues. First of all both cards need to be supported by the same driver (yes, a GeforceFX is really old; almost 6 years old). Second the GPUs need to offer similar 3D capabilities else it also won't work. So you need to pair a GeforceFX with a GeforceFX, a Geforce6 with another Geforce6 or 7 (7 is a similar architecture) or a geforce8 with a Geforce8 or 9 (again similar architecture).
