Hello, today the driver 180.22 comes in to experimental repository of debian.
So I tested it directly. And my first impression is: very good! Very fast with youtube flash videos. Very fast scrolling in firefox. Very fast 2D in KDE and Gnome. No problems with DualHead. Fast 3D Many new functions and improvements... No problems I am very impressed! NVIDIA is on a good way to restore their good LINUX support opinion. Thank You The next wonderful step would be: Build .deb or .rpm packages from the installer. |

i guess both you didn't read the huge amount of bug reports (present since the first beta, and still unresolved) of this driver release...
So, no, it's not the best driver ever, it's probably the worst.. if there're known major unresolved issues, then it maybe fast and improved for many, but it's still to be considered a beta. |

It's a good driver for desktop users, but not so good for laptop ones (no suspend to RAM, powermizer problems, etc).

This driver woks outstanding on my laptop. (ASUS G50vt-x1) I can suspend to ram, suspend to disk, powermizer was a simple edit to xorg.conf.
3D Effects in kde 4.1 work outstanding and flawlessly. In short it is the best driver I have used in the past few years. But to say it doesn't work on laptops is a broad and sweeping statement that simply isn't true. |

I have to agree, thanks for all the RENDER related improvements in the last few releases.
Now the proprietary nvidia driver has best-in-class RENDER accaleration, I don't know any other dirver using shaders to accalerate the filter effects. However, I have to admit I am still waiting to see gradient as well as trapezoid accaleration ![]() Thanks again, Clemens |

The driver works perfectly (and very fast) for me as well, but you need to acknowledge that there are still bugs left which lead to slowdowns, freezes and corruptions with certain hardware combinations and these make the new driver almost unusable for a few people.

like the other 180.xx beta --> 3 dead freeze per hour, except the 180.11.02 opengl3 beta that hang my sytem (only) 1-2 per 16 hour. (and never with the 177 serie - so not my card fault)
So do not call 180.22 "stable", 45 freeze per day with data loss .... i'm afraid about what you can call "unstable" in the future. Developpers, great thanks for the 180.11.02, he is a little slower but now i can work ! |

180.22 is dead stable here (Athlon X2 4850e, 3GB, OpenSuse 64bit). I have a weird checkerboard pattern when switching between some graphic modes, but it clears up instantly and I'm prepared to deal with it for the speed and stability.
Suspend to RAM/disk works fine. Not a single issue. I'd suspect, to be honest, that some of the issues with suspend and resume could be due to distro selection. Don't most distros bake in and tweak their own suspend/resume software? |

I wouldn't know. I cannot get them to work. I have done literally hundreds of nvidia driver installs so I am positive it is not user error.
