The 180 driver series should address those issues. What driver version are you running? If you're using one of the 180 drivers, please describe the problem in detail and attach a bug report as per the sticky thread on how to report a problem.

Yes plasma widgets are graphics in the sense they are not windows so they dont need composting for their transparency.
