Just the latest stable version, not anything like Jester's latest version. The bad thing is that it gets to where I can't even ping my HTPC when I wanna do a FTP transfer.

I'm using FileZilla for FTP

Maybe I'll install the latest Jester version this weekend.

So I've noticed that by "streaming" my movies from my gaming rig to my HTPC with XBMC over Gigabit is a horrible idea. Enough lag and audio sync problems to notice. Should I just move my 1TB hard drive back to my HTPC or should I look into why my Ethernet speed is so slow?

I just did a transfer test with a 6GB movie and found that the average transfer speed was 40MB/sec. Is this normal?

Should I consider buying PCI NICs? I'm just using the on-board Gigabyte (the brand) NICs now.

Hmm. I may have to try and find a good deal on some NICs. Intel's start at $30 so that's a little too much for me. And my main OS hard drive may be on it's last leg. May have to get it replaced before too long.

After trying Boxee out again, I've decided to try and get it working properly. Boxee offers the plugins right out of the box and the wifey enjoys them. My remote wouldn't work properly on my HTPC after using EventGhost and messing around with other apps, so I decided to wipe the PC clean and start over. Should be back up in 30 mins!

Good stuff guys.

Use alot of the apps you guys are using and i have real good results with media cerver and even stream to my iphone with a air video app off itunes store too.

Gigabit ethernet is a must to get good streaming with high def video too.

Where can i get sources in xbmc for video? off the net?

Now that the wife has a job and lives out of town, I have the big screen to myself. I figure since I spend a lot of my time in front of the computer as it is, why not do so on my couch...

Now, my I7 system has to stay in my studio as it's used for recording. I have a second machine I'm not using but it's a full desktop...

soooooo New HTPC parts en hot route pursuit to my door!

So far the machine already has the following:

Intel E8400 (currently clocked @ 3.75~ish ghz)
Corsair 620watt modular PSU
Samsung DVD drive
1TB western digital caviar black
120mm zalman CPU cooler
Win7 x64

Case
